Positano, Italy
Thank goodness for my best friend. She’s half Italian and Carribbean, and speaks several languages. Most importantly, she speaks Italian fluently which as you guessed it, was unbelievably helpful throughout our trip. All I had to do was follow her around which was fine by me.
Thanks to her, we made it to Positano via the most affordable way possible (train + bus) and I got to enjoy the scenic route along the way. The house we stayed in was beautiful and like most residences in Positano, was perched on the mountainside giving us a GORGEOUS view of the water. One of the highlights in Positano was Da Adolfo Restaurant. I literally ate the best pasta I’ve ever had in my life there. I still dream about the al dente spaghetti with red squid, roasted tomatoes and zucchini. We also ordered some fried sardines in fresh olive oil, fried mozzarella, a little peach wine and of course, some REAL limoncello. It was glorious and I was happy as a clam.
Da Adolfo is tucked in to one of Positano’s many pebbled beach areas. Its atmosphere is convivial, family-friendly and laid back; just what you’re looking for during your summer vacation. I will say that we may have been treated better because we were with a family friend who was somewhat of a local celebrity (lol). She grew up in the area and pretty much knew everyone in the town which definitely had its perks (i.e: not having to wait forever for a table or having beach chairs reserved at one of the swanky beach clubs). However, my best friend and I are pretty low maintenance and opted to sit on our towels and play on the beach with the cute Italian kids instead.
On another day, we took Da Adolfo’s free boat shuttle and headed to Marina Grande so that I could get some souvenirs for the family. That night, we ate at L’Incanto Bar Ristorante at the far end of the “boardwalk”. I ate an amazing spaghetti with fresh clams, garlic and olive oil. That might have been the second best pasta I’ve ever had in my life?! Anyway, I was in heaven. We left Positano the following day, hearts happy and bellies full.
