I touched down in Havana on an afternoon in August. I had reserved a car through the hostel beforehand but it never came so I hopped in a taxi and my adventure started there! My best friend was still on her way from Europe so I was solo. Felt safe and reallyyy excited 🤗. I had a few hours to spare before my friend meeting me so I checked in for the both of us at Animas 303. The hostel was great: completely renovated and clean, offering a great breakfast. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The place was just a short walk away from El Malecón so I ventured out with my camera in hand. I stopped at an outdoor bar/restaurant to just relax and bask in my grown woman glory.

Prior to heading out to Cuba, my girl and I booked several “adventures” through AirBnB. First up on the itinerary: photo tour through the streets of Havana with Juan. We walked and snapped away for about 4 hours, enjoying the colorful and vibrant architecture. Next up: salsa class with a vibrant and welcoming mother and daughter duo accompanied by two other dance instructors, a drummer and singer. We learned basic salsa steps, sang and cyphered to the live music in their living room. Such a great experience! That night we went to one of the city’s paladars (privately owned restaurants) and enjoyed garlic shrimp with rice, beans and avocado to the sounds of a salsa group. First day in Havana was busy but a true success!
